ARE YOU ACHIEVING THE RIGHT BALANCE FOR YOU?
Everyone's heard about the importance of a balanced diet, and the phrase 'YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT' couldn't be more true, but are you eating the right balance for YOU?
Are you a bit of cookie monster?Do you need banning from the carbohydrate draw?
Is your idea of five-a-day a packet of fruit pastels?
Are you addicted to chocolate?
Or, Are things passing through your lips, your simply unsure of?
Are you eating right for your personal profile... The phrase a balanced diet often gets thrown about without any clear reference to a persons individual needs or weight management goals, and whilst generic guidelines are useful, they often fail to account for the key specific factors involved with your individual personal profile, including:
We all have our own 'DNA,' which determines how we look, act, think, and evolve, and our individual biochemistry (including our metabolic-type), is what determines how our bodies respond to different types of food and activity. Unfortunately, the diet and slimming industry with all it's fads and gimmicks, has created a lot of confusion about eating right for weight loss or weight management, but the simple fact is that the notion of a 'one fits all diet,' is a fundamentally floored concept, and I will explain why.Firstly, you are not a car requiring a single fuel, you are a human being requiring a balanced profile of micro and macro nutrients, including: essential proteins, EFA's, low GI carbs, fibre, vitamins and minerals, in total your body requires around 51 different nutrients to feel satisfied, and sustain results. When you go on a diet and your body is constantly being fed the same thing it can lead to a deficiency or imbalance. Moreover, if your calorie reduction isn't managed correctly, you can end up losing hard gained muscle. Muscle is an active tissue and burns twice the calories of fat (inactive tissue), as a result your metabolism deregulates further, causing it to slow down.
![]() How many times do you hear about people losing weight only to put it all back on? This is the reason why many Yo Yo dieters, often initially lose weight, but then end up regaining weight, and can often end up worse than when they first started (i.e. Thin-Fat). Following any strict regimented diet is eventually destined for failure or will lead to plateau, because it doesn't account for your evolving needs and individual personal profile. If we all require the same diet, then why do different people have different body types (i.e. mesomorph, ectomorph, endomorph), and why do different people have different allergies/intolerances (e.g. wheat, dairy, gluten etc). This is the catch 22 of the diet industry, and why what works for one person rarely works for another, which is why I offer a personalized approach to nutrition.
On top of this, we live and work in an increasingly dynamic fast-paced environment, which has made juggling work and life, somewhat of an uphill challenge. The evolution of the internet and digital age has led to a less active population with people eating more food on the go, skipping meals then snacking, and other bad habits. Moreover, we live in an environment, where it's so easy to make poor food choices. Today's supermarkets are increasingly flooded with more processed foods, and large companies often use clever technical terms, chemical names, and abbreviations, to help hide the sugar, fat, and salt in them. Even the slightest of things, such as diet sodas, caffeine, salt, alcohol, and water hydration, can all interfere with our PH level and acid/alkaline balance.![]() Overall, today's convenience culture has created the perfect environment to develop some kind of imbalance, and according to recent figures:
"Over 70% of the UK are now classified as being overweight, obese, or morbidly obese"
(Keynote, 2010).
Long-term a nutritional imbalance and being overweight can lead to a range of further health complications, including: heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, poor immunity and certain cancers, not to mention the psychological affects such as anxiety, stress, and depression.
Nutrition4Life Apart from weight management, nutrition plays a key fundamental role in our physical and emotional well being, including our ability to perform at work, study, sport, and every day life. Did you know that nutrition can influence over 85% of the results you get from training? You could be wasting hours and hours at the gym each day, only to fall at the first hurdle. The fact is that not all calories are created equal, and despite obvious differences in calorific energy value, different foods have different levels of nutrients, and create different metabolic affects and biochemical reactions. Whether you want to lose weight, improve performance at work, or get better results from your training, nutrition is the foundation to success. Personalized Nutrition, Maximum Results!
