Hi my name is Tony Lawson (aka Flex Lawson), and I am the founder of Flex Personal Training.
I come from a strong sport and fitness background, and am passionate about everything health and fitness. I have over 10 years experience working in the health and fitness industry, and have developed a reputation for being a highly motivational and inspirational personal trainer, hence the nickname 'Flex.'
As a personal trainer I am 'Flex' by name and 'Flex' by nature, people usually come to me when their tired of reaching plateaus and not progressing, and are ready to start achieving 'real' results, which last, and are sustainable. Over the past decade I have been priviledged enough to have helped shape the lives of a wide variety of people, from running my own weight management course, to helping bodybuilders improve shape, size, and symmetry, and helping professional athletes gain an 'edge' in their performance.
When it comes to training, I'm all about 'Holistic Health and Functional Fitness,' for me real results come through developing a combination of a 'Healthy Mind and Healthy Body,' and I pride myself on my ability to help people bridge the mind-body connection. As a person, I'm highly approachable, down to earth, and easy to get on with. I have a playful sense of humor, and will always try to make your experience as motivational, fun, and interesting as possible.
Biography
Born in 1980, in Ruskington, Lincolnshire, in the UK, it was apparent from a young age that I was always going to be involved in sport and fitness in some way. From playing Football aged 8 for the local Village team, to being appointed House Captain at Secondary School and representing the school in pretty much any and every sport going, my passion for sport and fitness continued to grow. A natural athlete with fast learning and development skills, I competed to a high level in several sports, including: Tennis and Badminton, and represented the county in athletics and cross-country.
After Sixth-Form in 1999, I moved to Leeds to study a HND in Leisure and Sport Management, whilst on the course I developed a keen interest in athletic performance and body building, and after a work placement at Virgin Active I studied free weight training with the British Weight Lifting Association, and became a B.A.W.L.A leader. As a naturally inquisitive mind, I then wanted to learn more about the role of nutrition and training in weight management and sports performance, so I completed the highly coveted Premier Diploma in Personal Training, and was very proud to graduate top-of-the-class with 97% average.
Following Premier in 2002, I secured my first job personal training at Leisure Connection in Sleaford, and after taking on additional responsibilities running the GP Referral scheme and weight management course, I was quickly promoted to Duty/Ops Manager with full GM responsibilities at weekends. I was subsequently appointed by Bladerunner in Boston (The Princess Royal Sports Area), where I performed a similar role, and since this time I have continued to develop my career combining senior management responsibility with practical hands-on fitness. I have been fortunate enough to have worked for some of the largest and most respected brands in the UK, including: Virgin, Fitness First, JJB Sports, Bladerunner, Leisure Connection, and LMU (Carnegie).
I moved back to Leeds in 2005 after deciding I wanted to complete a top-up degree, and after being awarded a BA (Hons) Business degree, I took up a position at the Carnegie Faculty of Sport Education. Having decided that long-term I wanted to start my own business, I expressed an interest in studying an MBA, and was delighted when the Head of Faculty selected me for MBA sponsorship. The MBA was somewhat of a challenge, but I also thrive on a challenge, and in addition to developing a strong portfolio, I also built up a lot of confidence for today's modern business world.
As a Premier qualified Personal Trainer, and MBA qualified Business Coach, I am somewhat unique to the fitness industry, as I posses a rare mix of professional coaching, leadership, and management skills, together with the health and fitness knowledge, and exercise 'know-how,' of an experienced trainer. So, after noticing how everyone is leading busier more hectic lifestyles, and then after having to overcome my own personal battle with illness, I developed a greater empathy for how different factors surrounding a person's lifestyle can influence their general health and wellbeing.
So, whilst studying my MBA, I entered a business start-up competition and won a 2008 LMU 'Proof of Concept' award. I have combined my passion for health and fitness, with my passion for business, to offer new 'flexible' services, which are 100% tailored to an individuals needs and lifestyle, and aims to put the client 'back in control.' The Flex philosophy is 'Healthy Mind + Healthy Body = Healthy Business,' and through my work I strive to help people achieve a better work life balance, as well as personal, career, and life success. Since setting up Flex Personal Training, I have won a 2010 'Enterprise Inc' award, become an approved Change4Life partner, secured several contracts with major national and international retailers, and have recently lauched on Facebook/Twitter/Linkedin, so please do support my cause as I move into new and uncharted territory.
Anyway, I hope you like my site, and if I can help in anyway with your 2012 goals, then please don't hesitate to get in contact, as I would love to hear from you!
Best wishes in your training, always!
